Suite No. 2

Leo Brouwer's Suite No. 2 in D major, written between the end of 1954 and the first months of 1955, is a little gem that shines among that small group of works from his early years, or rather, from his first months devoted to composition.
In the final bars of the third movement, apart from putting them in contact with one of his first works, written when he was barely fifteen years old, I highlight the discreet use of an elementary two-voice polyphony in small alternating sequences of question-answer, and the use of chromaticism without leaving its tonal sense, something that even at that time was an aesthetic presupposition of his compositional language.
